Overview of Grizzly Bear Architecture and Design
We are a ‘Mom and Pop’ Architecture firm, with mostly ‘Pop’ running the daily operation. We have relationships with drafters, technical designers, consultants and various other professionals built over the course of my (Charles) 36 years in and around the Architecture and Design arena and since Grizzly Bear Architecture and Design, Inc.’s inception in 2010, 13 years as an architecture firm. The functional purpose of our firm is to help people who need architectural solutions to architectural challenges. We do that by creating, “One of a Kind, Hard to Find, Architecture and Design” – in other words, he have a strong bent toward originating customized creative solutions. We can do generic work as well, but appreciate greatly the opportunities we earn along the way to mix creativity with the real-world requirements of obtaining permits for homeowners, business owners, and anyone and everyone else.
Mission and Vision
We are here to help you obtain a permit as quickly as possible, addressing your specific design needs, and all within the budget you provide for us.
How we achieve the mission varies at times based on the needs of the client, the design, and the requirements that the City, County, or State has placed on us.
History
- I Earned my Architecture Degree (BARC) from Mississippi State University in 1992. This program is a 5 year program
- I Earned my Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) from Art Center College of Design in 1996. – Focus was Environmental Entertainment Design.
- I’m still working on adding everything to it, but my personal website (CharlesMatthews.info) has or will have a listing of all of the various projects, companies and roles I have played throughout the years. Whereas this website, Grizzly Bear Architecture and Design, has all of the work I have completed under my own ‘shingle’, my website (Charles Matthews.info) has examples of all of my work – not limited only to architecture. There, I have broken everything down according to type, client when applicable, and other relevant info.
- I achieved my California Architecture License in 2010. My California Architectural Home Base is LA County / Santa Clarita, although I have worked in a number of cities and counties in California
- I have since earned licenses in 12 additional states:
- Arizona
- Florida
- Idaho
- Maine
- Massachusetts
- Mississippi
- Nevada
- New Jersey
- New Mexico
- Texas
- Utah
- Washington
- I travel as needed, and do most of my work remotely.
