This post concerns the ‘big picture’ of the various types of uses that can be found in buildings. Whereas some buildings may be considered to be single use, such as a business office, there are others which have multiple uses.
The following is the list of uses per CBC 2013 – Section 302:
- Assembly – All Group ‘A’ category uses
- Business – All Group ‘B’ category uses
- Educational – All Group ‘E’ category uses
- Factory and Industrial – All Group ‘F’ category uses
- High Hazard – All Group ‘H’ category uses
- Institutional – All Group ‘I’ category uses
- Laboratory – All Group ‘L’ category uses
- Mercantile – All Group ‘M’ category uses
- Organized Camps – All Group ‘C10’ category uses
- Research Laboratories – All Group ‘L’ category uses
- Residential – All Group ‘R’ category uses
- Storage – All Group ‘S’ category uses
- Utility and Miscellaneous – All Group ‘U’ category uses
